William Chen

IHS Markit Executive Director, Base Chemical Insight

William Chen is Executive Director of Base Chemicals at IHS Markit. He has 15 years of industry experience, including R&D, sales, and professional consulting service. Currently, William leads the Asia Olefins team in conducting market research and providing consulting services on light olefins, C4 olefins and elastomers/rubbers, and propylene derivatives (e.g. acrylates and oxo alcohols). He is also responsible for promoting new business in olefin services in the region. He regularly provides key inputs for short-term & long-term product market services, and enhances models for product supply/demand, pricing, economic analysis, and sensitivities. Within IHS Markit, William has been involved in many petrochemical consulting projects and multi-client studies, including the China Coal Chemical Study, Global Propane Dehydrogenation Research, and Refinery-Cracker/Aromatic Complex Feasibility Study. William has also been invited as an external investment expert to provide consulting service for key state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and privately owned enterprises (POEs). 
Prior to IHS Markit, William worked for ChemChina. At ChemChina, William started as a chemical engineer at its Lanzhou fiber plant in Northwestern China. He later moved back to Beijing to focus on downstream application development. In his last two years with ChemChina, William took on sales and marketing responsibility in Northeast Asia. 
William earned a Ph.D from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and majored in Polymer Chemistry and Physics. William is based in Beijing, China.
